Key Fob Programming, Replacement & Sync

Whether you bought a fob online or need a brand-new one cut from scratch, we'll program it to your vehicle on-site — at your location.

A modern key fob is much more than a set of buttons; it is a sophisticated security device that must be digitally paired with your vehicle's engine immobilizer and body control module. At GTA Car Keys, we provide expert mobile key fob programming across the Greater Toronto Area, eliminating the need for expensive dealership appointments and towing. Whether you need a spare fob programmed or have lost your only one, our technicians perform the entire synchronization process on-site at your location.

Our mobile key fob programming process

Programming a vehicle fob requires specialized diagnostic hardware that interfaces directly with the car's computer. Our process is designed for precision and security:

  • Diagnostic Connection: We connect our dealership-grade programming computers to your vehicle's OBD-II port to access the secure immobilizer system.
  • Security Access & Pin Retrieval: Many modern vehicles (especially European and late-model North American brands) require security PIN retrieval. We handle this retrieval on-site to facilitate the pairing process.
  • Fob Pairing: We synchronize the transponder chip and the remote keyless entry functions. This ensures the fob can both start the engine and operate power locks, trunks, and remote start features.
  • Redundant Testing: Every function—from proximity entry to panic buttons—is tested multiple times to ensure 100% functionality before we complete the service.

Types of fobs we program

We carry an extensive inventory of blanks and can program virtually any automotive remote platform:

  • Smart Proximity Fobs: For "push-to-start" vehicles where the key stays in your pocket.
  • Remote-Head Keys: Traditional keys with the remote buttons built into the head.
  • Flip Keys: Retractable keys common in Volkswagen, Audi, and Ford vehicles.
  • Aftermarket Fobs: If you have already purchased a compatible fob online, our technicians can cut the blade and program it for you.

Vehicle makes supported in the GTA

Our programming software supports over 95% of vehicles on the road today. We specialize in Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Mazda, and Subaru. We also provide specialist programming for luxury brands including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Lexus, including complex "all-keys-lost" situations.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can I program a car key fob myself?

While some older vehicles (pre-2010) allowed "on-board" programming via a sequence of ignition turns and button presses, almost all modern vehicles require specialized diagnostic tools connected to the OBD-II port. GTA Car Keys brings these tools to your location to handle the programming professionally.

Will programming a new fob delete my old ones?

By default, no. We can add a new fob as a "spare." however, if a fob has been stolen, we can perform a "clear and pair" service which wipes all existing keys from the car's memory and only pairs the keys currently in your possession, ensuring the stolen fob no longer works.

Do you program fobs bought from Amazon or eBay?

Yes. If you have purchased your own fob, we can cut the emergency blade and program it to your vehicle. Please note that we cannot guarantee the quality or compatibility of third-party fobs, but we will test them for the correct frequency before beginning the work.

What is the cost of key fob programming in the GTA?

Mobile programming typically costs between $140 and $280 depending on whether we provide the fob or you do. This is significantly less than dealership pricing, and you avoid the cost of towing the vehicle to a service center.

Do you offer mobile key fob programming near me?

Yes. We operate as a mobile service and prioritize efficient appointments throughout Toronto and the GTA. Our technicians are on the road Sunday through Friday to assist you at your home or office.

What vehicle makes can you program fobs for?

We support nearly every make: Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, GMC, Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Nissan, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, VW, Audi, BMW, and more. If your vehicle has a remote fob, we likely have the software to program it.
